A gifted art student seeks revenge after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident that robs him of the use of his hands. Lana observes Clark with Chloe and begins to rethink her relationship with Whitney.
Who is Justin? Justin Gaines is a Smallville High student who has spent
six months recovering from a hit-and-run accident. He did comics for the Smallville
Torch, and was known as a gifted artist. Since the accident, he doesn't have
the same use of his hands. During his recovery, Chloe has kept in touch via
e-mail. Justin tells Chloe he's always had a crush on her, and he fought his
way back to health for her. With his loss of dexterity, Justin has developed
powers of telekinesis. He reveals this to Chloe as they share passionate kisses,
while he levitates objects around the room. That afternoon, Justin gets information
that matches some license tag numbers he remembers from the hit-and-run accident
to Principal Kwan's vehicle. Seeking revenge, Justin waits for Principal Kwan
to arrive at home. Justin uses his telekinetic powers to control Principal Kwan's
vehicle, causing it to crash into him right through the garage door, crushing
him against the wall.
What's up with Chloe? Clark forgets the journalism conference he was
to attend with Chloe. She gets angry, and Pete has to explain to Clark that
its because she likes him, wanted to spend more time with him, and wants to
invite him to the spring formal dance. Feeling frustrated with Clark's lack
of interest in her, Chloe is soon delighted by Justin's attention, despite Clark's
warnings. That is, until she finds disturbing comics drawn by Justin in his
room. She figures out that Justin caused the death of Principal Kwan, makes
up an excuse to go see Clark, and leaves Justin. Chloe calls Clark from his
barn on her cell phone.
What's up with Clark? Now that he finally knows Chloe likes him, Clark
thinks they can be more than friends. He tells Lana he let a moment slip away
before, and doesn't want that to happen a second time. Clark is admittedly jealous
of Justin's attention towards Chloe. She dismisses his warnings. When Clark
goes to the Kwan home to see the accident scene in the garage, he meets Kwan's
son Danny. He tells Danny of his suspicions of Justin. Clark suspects that Danny
was the hit-and-run driver in Justin's disabling accident.
What's up with Lex? Pamela, Lex's childhood nanny returns. She's the
only woman he ever loved besides his mother. She explains that she left suddenly
after his mother's death because Lionel sent her away. She has returned on the
anniversary of Mrs. Luthor's death to ask Lex's forgiveness. "Alexander" won't
give it. Lex confronts his father about Pamela. Lionel admits he sent her away.
He tells Lex she is dying of cancer. Lionel warns Lex that she may be looking
for money. Lex goes to the hospital to see Pamela. She tells him how much she
wanted to be there while he grew up. He tells Pamela he really misses his mother
and that Pamela may have made a difference in the man he turned out to be. Pamela
reassures him and says his mother would be proud of him.
What's up with Lana? Seeing the interest between Clark and Chloe, Lana
is melancholy, realizing that a relationship she might have with Clark might
slip away. Her feelings for Whitney have changed, but she felt she had to support
him during his dad's illness. Now Whitney is happy that his dad is recovering,
and his attention is back on Lana as his girlfriend. Lana wants to talk to Whitney
about how she feels and to free herself from their steady relationship.
What's up with Whitney? Whitney comes to the Talon. Just as Lana says
"Whitney, we need to talk," Whitney tells Lana the news that his dad has died
suddenly.
How it all ends up: Back at the barn, Justin has used telekinesis to
knock Chloe unconscious. As he uses his powers to lift and start a chain saw,
Justin hovers the tool over Chloe. Clark storms in, jumping in front of the
threatening tool, breaking it apart. He pushes a stunned Justin aside just before
Chloe awakens and hugs him in gratitude. Danny Kwan turns himself in as the
driver in Justin's hit-and-run accident. Justin is sent for psychiatric evaluation.
Clark asks Chloe to join him on a date to attend the journalism conference.
At the cemetery service for Mr. Fordman, in the sadness and rain, Lana comforts
Whitney. Clark watches sadly as they walk away. Lana stops for a long glance
back to Clark. Chloe sees the exchange, and sadly leaves. Lana turns her glance
away from Clark to follow Whitney. Clark walks away alone in the rain.

Lex: Clark, love isn't about playing it safe, it's about risks. Unless you're willing to put yourself out there, you'll never know.
Clark: Have you ever been in love before?
Lex: I've only loved two women in my life. One died and the other betrayed me.
Clark: It's like you find out this secret and it colors everything. I just can't believe I never saw it before.
Lana: Sometimes the right person can be right in front of your eyes and you never even know it.
Clark: Look, I know I screwed up, but why is Chloe having a breakdown?
Pete: You're not the most observant person in the world, are you?
Danny: I see you in a uniform, flying. Have you ever considered a career in the Air Force?
Clark: Um...I'll think about it.
Lex: (seeing Clark reading a book, amused): 'Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus'?
Clark: I'm trying to get an insight into the female psyche.
Lex: I seriously doubt you'll find it in here.
Chloe: What's with you, Clark? Do you have some sort of a Savior Complex? If I'm in trouble, you'll rescue me but other than that, you remain emotionally unavailable.
Justin: Am I freaking you out?
Chloe: Believe it or not, I've seen stranger things.
Justin: Cause I don't want to end up...on your wall.
Chloe: Don't worry, you won't. Now let's make everything float again.
Chloe: So should we do the "I told you so" part, or is my perennial bad judgment implicit
Chloe: Most men are from Mars, Clark, but you're from some distant galaxy that I've never even heard of.
Pamela: I wanted to see what kind of man you grew up into.
Lex: A very busy one.
Lex What's the problem?
Clark: I have these two amazing friends, both of them girls...
Lex: For the sake of argument, let's call them 'Lana' and 'Chloe'.
Lionel Luthor: (reading) 'I celebrate myself, and what I assume, you shall assume...'
Lex: '...for every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.'
Lionel: That sounds like a description of family.
Lex: Not ours.
Lionel: What did she want?
Lex: Forgiveness.
Lionel: She must not know you very well.
Clark: How many more innocent people are you going to kill?
Justin: Just one more.

Justin Gaines is an old friend of Chloe Sullivan and a former Smallville High cartoonist. He was hit by a car and spent months in hospital, but made a complete recovery, except for the use of his hands. He now feels useless, since his main talent was drawing. However, during his recovery, in order to compensate for the loss of his hands, Justin has learned to move things with his mind.
As he is being discharged from the hospital, his doctor visits him. The doctor is insensitive and does not show any concern about Justin's hands, instead he advises him to just change his career focus. As the doctor leaves the hospital with his wife, Justin causes the elevator to crash. While the doctor's wife manages to escape and then to try and pull her husband out, the elevator drops again, severing the doctor's hands and dropping to the ground.
Justin returns to Smallville High, where he starts dating Chloe. He confesses to her that he is able to move things with his mind. He meets Clark Kent, who is immediately suspicious of him, after seeing an article about the doctor's death in Justin's file. Since Chloe is dating him, all her journalistic instincts and objectivity disappears.
Justin tells Chloe about his accident, where he only remembers the car driving away and seeing part of the license plate "DDI". Chloe's contact at the DMV sends her a fax with a match, but Justin grabs the fax before Chloe notices. The match is that of Principal Kwan's car. Justin kills the principal by moving the car with his mind and crushing Principal Kwan. When Clark visits the scene the following day, he meets the principal's son Danny who confesses he was the one who caused Justin's hit-and-run. Danny feels guilty for his father's death, and Clark encourages him to turn himself in.
Chloe refuses to believe that Justin could be the cause of this, until she finds Justin's file, that contains a complete comic strip description of both the doctor's and Principal Kwan's accidents. Justin realizes that she knows, and follows her to Clark's barn. Justin attempts to kill her, but Clark confronts him and knocks him out. He is sent to a psychiatric hospital.
